First Friday Gallery Walk on September 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Decatur Area Arts Council will host an exhibit by Terry Rathje entitled Obsession for Expression, September 1-28, 2023, in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center in downtown Decatur.
The opening reception for the exhibit will be part of Downtown Decatur’s First Friday Gallery Walk on September 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Award-winning professor of art, author, and working artist, Terry Rathje puts the “fun” in functional! Terry creates furniture, sculpture, assemblage, and installation pieces designed with the eye of an artist and the skill of a craftsman. This exhibit will feature a variety of creations guests are encouraged to interact with and respond to, while incorporating a wide range of materials and textures, which evokes a sense of playfulness.

The event is open free to the public and includes three galleries:

Artist Remarks - 6 p.m.
Music and light refreshments - Gallery 510 - 160 E. Main St.Artist Remarks - 6:30 p.m.
Featured artist: Dr. Anthony Collins - Blue Connection - 117 N. Water St.
Featured Exhibit: Upcycled by Millikin University student Logan Mulholland
Gallery Field TripsField trips are available to school and community groups of all ages. Field trips include a guided tour through the gallery exhibit and a related instructor-led art project in the studio. By appointment only during regular gallery hours Monday-Friday. Ask about possible scholarships!
