Decatur Area Arts Council announces the April 2021 exhibit in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water St. in downtown Decatur. Entitled “Voyeur: The Art of Erica Entrop,” the exhibit will be open April 9-28. There is no First Friday Gallery Walk schedule this month.

You are invited to become a “voyeur” as you observe the people in artist Erica Entrop's paintings, each anonymous, even though captured in scenes that feel familiar to all of us. These slices of everyday life are complimented by a collection of her intimate and striking fabric portraits, displaying to Entrop’s unique perspective as an artist.

Entrop explains this collection of her art in this way, "My work is based on a series of images that I have captured while riding public transportation in Los Angeles, Havana, New York, and Knoxville… I observe these people going to the same places, never speaking or engaging with these familiar strangers. I started taking their pictures, secretly capturing moments from their lives."

Erica Entrop was born in Roswell, New Mexico and graduated Cum Laude from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with her BFA. After completing her studies, she began traveling across the United States exhibiting in different locations including Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. She now splits her time between her studios in Knoxville, TN USA and Havana, Cuba. She has had an extensive artistic career having participated in exhibitions across the country and the world.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency. For more information, visit www.decaturarts.org or call 217-423-3189
