Decatur Area Arts Council announces the February 2020 exhibit in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water St. in downtown Decatur. Entitled “In Flux,” the exhibit will be open February 5-29. The exhibit features abstract paintings and collages by local artist Michelle Sendy.

The public is invited to attend the opening reception for the exhibit which will be held during the First Friday Gallery Walk in downtown Decatur, IL on Friday, February 7, 5-7:30 pm. Sendy will speak briefly about her art at 6 pm. The Millikin Electric Guitar Ensemble will provide music throughout the evening. The event is open free to the public.

Sendy's work explores shape and form as she deconstructs the familiar to create fresh, playful works that draw the viewer into themselves. She is inspired by common objects, such as the landscapes we see in our everyday life or items we interact with on a daily basis. Likewise, her collages, made primarily from discarded materials, evoke whimsical landscapes that disarm the viewer and invite them into her fantastical world. Sendy holds a BFA in painting from Millikin University and a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Illinois State University. She teaches art at Maroa-Forsyth High School.
