The exhibit features a selection of Jane Mueller’s private art collection donated by the Hieronymus Mueller Museum to the Decatur Area Arts Council for an art exhibit and fundraiser.
Decatur Area Arts Council announces the April 2022 exhibit in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water St. in downtown Decatur. Entitled “Jane Mueller Collection – Fundraiser Art Sale,” the exhibit will be open April 1-23, 2022. The exhibit features a selection of Jane Mueller’s private art collection donated by the Hieronymus Mueller Museum to the Decatur Area Arts Council for an art exhibit and fundraiser.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception for the exhibit which will be held during the First Friday Gallery Walk in downtown Decatur, IL on Friday, April 1, 5-7:30 pm. A Mueller Museum representative will speak briefly about the art at 6 pm. Pianist Doug Nicholson will provide music throughout the evening. The event is open free to the public.
Jane Mueller was an avid collector, a travel enthusiast, equestrian, and philanthropist. Her vast collection includes artifacts, folk art, and fine art collected from around the globe. Jane Mueller was also an instrumental founder of the Hieronymus Mueller Museum. When she passed in 2009, she bequeathed a portion of her private art collection to the Hieronymus Mueller Family Foundation. The art pieces that tell her personal and family story are kept by the museum and officially made part of the museum collection.
However, there are many other pieces that, while beautiful, do not fit within the mission and scope of the museum’s collection. The Foundation’s Board of Directors would rather see those art pieces enjoyed by others. Because Jane was so fond of the arts, the Hieronymus Mueller Family Foundation felt it would be fitting that they help raise funds for the Decatur Area Arts Council. All pieces on display will be for sale, with all proceeds going to the Decatur Area Arts Council.
