A wide array of art, photos, artifacts, and Decatur memorabilia that long-time Decatur residents will remember fondly.
This summer, due to the impact of the COVID pandemic instead of the annual International Arts Experience exhibit, the Decatur Area Arts Council is presenting an exhibit entitled "DECATUR: Memories of Our Hometown" from June 8-July 24 in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water Street in downtown Decatur. Gallery hours are Monday–Friday, 9a-4p and Saturdays, 10a-2p. Currently social distancing and face coverings are required while in the gallery.
Thanks to generous contributors, the exhibit is open free to the public. It is sponsored by Ameren Illinois, Tim & Karen Dowd. along with a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
The exhibit includes a wide array of art, photos, artifacts, and Decatur memorabilia that long-time Decatur residents will remember fondly. The items on display tell the rich and colorful story of Decatur over the past 60 years, including the Transfer House, city high schools, Elam's Drive-In, the Decatur Commodores baseball team, and more. Items are on loan from local collectors along with others who kept objects that help preserve their own special memories.
Field trips to visit this exhibit are also available for small groups. For a small fee, guests will learn a bit about local history and then cross the street to Central Park and draw the Transfer House in pen and ink with a unique splash of color.
