Christening of Grand Piano Donated to Anne Lloyd Gallery

September 14, 2020

Thurs., Sept. 17 - 10 a.m.

The Decatur Area Arts Council will host a brief christening ceremony, Thurs., Sept. 17 at 10 a.m., for the grand piano recently gifted to the Anne Lloyd Gallery through a generous donation by Mary and Bob Lundin.

Michael Scherer, one of Decatur's most accomplished pianists, will perform a few songs to provide a warm welcome for this beautiful instrument.

On April 3, 2019, while attending Mid-Day Music performance presented in the Anne Lloyd Gallery, the Lundin's were inspired to provide a replacement for the piano that had served in the Gallery since 2004.

The featured musician that day was Silvan Negrutiu, Assistant Professor of Piano and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies for the Millikin University School of Music. Negrutiu is an internationally acclaimed pianist who has performed solo and with prestigious orchestras around the world. He provided a recital of a collection of pieces in celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday.

Mary Lundin, who had studied music at Millikin, felt the performance was magnificent but the piano left much to be desired. It was then, she decided to find a piano that was better suited to the caliber of musicians that would play in the Gallery in the future.

Please join us as we thank Mary and Bob Lundin for their gift and welcome our grand piano to the Anne Lloyd Gallery. (Remember to wear your mask.)
