The opening reception for the exhibit will be part of Downtown Decatur’s First Friday Gallery Walk on August 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Decatur Area Arts Council will host an exhibit of the Bloomington/Normal Modern Quilt Guild, August 4-24, 2023, in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center in downtown Decatur.

The opening reception for the exhibit will be part of Downtown Decatur’s First Friday Gallery Walk on August 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

This group exhibit will feature a number of small “art” quilts, plus a few larger quilts, created in the modern quilting style. The Bloomington/Normal Modern Quilts are primarily functional and inspired by modern design. Modern quilters work in different styles and define modern quilting in many different ways, emphasizing the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast, improvisational piecing, expansive negative space, and creative stitching.
