The first of two murals to be painted for the Decatur Mural Project in 2019 will be at 3650 E. William St. Rd., Decatur, IL (east wall of the Kurent Occupational Safety building). The mural is sponsored by gifts from Phil Jones, as well as the James Millikin Trust. Additional materials and equipment assistance are being provided by Lowe's.
The DAAC Public Art Committee and building owner have selected a design by local artist Jerry Johnson. Beginning on August 10, 2019, he will likely take a couple of weeks to complete the mural.
This will be the third mural Johnson will paint for the Decatur Mural project. He previously painted the Stephen Decatur mural at 145 S. Water St. in 2013 and the Decatur Staleys football mural at 111 E. Main St. in 2015.
