Decatur Area Arts Council announces the November 2018 exhibit in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water St. in downtown Decatur. Entitled “The World As I See It,” the exhibit will be open from November 1-26. It features photography by internationally known award-winning graphic designer and photographer, David Brodsky. Mostly black and white photography, the images were taken around the world. Brodsky captures very human moments, timeless textural landscapes, and the beauty of architecture. He strives to convey the “soul of things” – sometimes contemplative, sometimes funny and often an uncanny mood.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Brodsky graduated from the Kiev Institute of Decorative and Applied Art and Design in 1974. His professional journey as a Graphic Designer and Creative Director included working in the Soviet Union, Italy and the United States. Currently, he lives in Springfield, IL.
Brodsky will also have his book David Brodsky [chronicles of ordinary lives] available for purchase. The book includes black and white images of everyday life from around the world that tell visual stories – not at first obvious, but filled with enough emotion or mystery to elevate them above the ordinary.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception for the exhibit which will be held during the First Friday Gallery Walk in downtown Decatur, IL on Friday, November 2 from 5-7:30 pm. Brodsky will be available to sign his books and will speak briefly about his photography at 6 pm. The Millikin Guitar Ensemble will provide music throughout the evening. The event is open free to the public.
The First Friday Gallery Walk also includes:
- Blue Connection, 117 N. Water – Millikin University Graphic Design Student art show
- Illinois Art Gallery, 160 E. Main St. – "Holiday Market" of members’ art work
