DAAC Executive Director Announces Retirement

September 05, 2024

It is with a mixture of gratitude and sadness that we announce the retirement of our Executive Director, Jerry Johnson, effective December 30, 2024.

Jerry has been an integral part of the Decatur Area Arts Council for the past 13 years, leading our organization with passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the arts. His leadership has not only strengthened our council but has also enriched the cultural landscape of our community.

Under Jerry's guidance, the Decatur Area Arts Council has achieved numerous milestones, including:

Jerry spearheaded the introduction of innovative programs, most notably public art initiatives, that have brought the arts closer to our community, fostering creativity and engagement among all age groups.

His efforts in community outreach have significantly increased participation in our events and programs, making the arts accessible to a broader audience.

Jerry celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Arts Council, 20 years of the Madden Arts Center, and shepherded DAAC through the COVID pandemic, allowing us to continue our mission of promoting the arts in Decatur.

He has cultivated strong partnerships with local businesses, schools, and other organizations, enhancing our ability to deliver high-quality arts experiences.

Jerry's impact on the Decatur Area Arts Council and the community is immeasurable. His legacy will be felt for years to come, and he will be missed by colleagues, artists, and the many community members whose lives he has touched. He assures us that he intends to remain active in the local arts scene.

As we begin the search for a new Executive Director, we are confident that Jerry's successor will build upon the strong foundation he has established. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and continuing the work that Jerry has so passionately advanced.

Please join us in celebrating Jerry Johnson's career and wishing him a fulfilling retirement. We plan to honor Jerry with a retirement celebration on Friday, December 6, at the Madden Arts Center, and we hope you will be able to join us in expressing our heartfelt gratitude for his service.

Thank you, Jerry, for your unwavering dedication and for helping the Decatur Area Arts Council inspire creative experiences that transform our community. We wish you all the best in your retirement and future endeavors.
