This “socially cautious competition,” designed around red Solo Cups, is the latest fundraiser for Decatur Area Arts Council.
The new event was created when the annual Decatur Craft Beer Festival was sidelined this year due to COVID-19.
“We’re aiming for a fun competition where Minute to Win It meets American Ninja Warrior,” says Jerry Johnson, executive director of the Arts Council.
The games begin August 20th and run every Thursday, 7:00-9:00 p.m., through September 17th. The first four weeks are qualifying rounds alternating between Decatur Brew Works and Golden Fox Brewing. The top three teams at each qualifying rounds will move on to the Finals at Golden Fox Brewing. Three teams prizes of $300, $200, and $100 will be awarded at the Finals.
For a fee of $20, a team of two, or “cupple,” will race against the clock, playing five to seven games in a relay fashion. Competitors can look forward to stacking, tossing, bouncing, dropping, flipping, and more with their plastic cups. No drinking is required.
“We encourage everyone to have fun and get creative with their team names and outfits for the night.,” Johnson says.
Compliance with current health guidelines for social gatherings will be required. Duos competing must wear masks. Disposable gloves and hand sanitizer will be available.
Competitors must register in advance at DCBFest.com due to time and space limitations at each qualifying round.
