Adult Drawing Skills Series

Date

Tuesday, March 10, 2026
6:00pm - 7:30pm

Location

2nd Floor - Barnett Art Studio

Participants will join local artist JD Curce for this series focused on developing their drawing skills.

This series will focus on three areas to help participants demystify the art of drawing:

  • Tools of the Trade: We will start with a hands-on look at the basic materials you'll need, from different types of pencils and paper to erasers and blending stumps, understanding how each tool can affect your marks and final artwork.
  • Understanding Value: Next, we'll dive into the concept of value, exploring the spectrum from light to dark. Mastering value is crucial as it allows you to create the illusion of three-dimensional form, volume, and light in your two-dimensional drawings.
  • Exploring Texture: Finally, we will investigate how to use various marks and strokes to render believable textures, making surfaces in your drawings, whether rough bark, smooth glass, or soft fabric, feel tangible and real.

Prepare to look at the world around you with new eyes and develop a foundational visual vocabulary that will serve you in all your future artistic endeavors. Let's pick up our pencils and begin!
