Following in the footsteps (or strokes, as it were) of famous pastel painters such as Edgar Degas and Mary Cassatt, these modern-day artists produce amazing detail and atmospheric effects with this often under-celebrated medium. Above are examples of each respective artist's work.
Katherine Irish Henry who grew up in Illinois, loving the wide expanse of sky above the prairies, now depicts the dramatic vistas of her home in New Mexico.
Kathryn Fehlig, from Montana, infuses her passion for the Montana landscape into beautiful "plein air" studies.
Colette Odya Smith, from Wisconsin, skirts the edge of realism and abstraction with her intimate landscapes - close encounters with sections of rocks, streams, and natural forms.
Rick Hines, from Missouri, creates amazingly realistic landscapes heightened by the color and pastels.
Opening Reception:
Wednesday, August 3, 5 - 7:00 p.m. Music by harpist, Stefanie Pansch.
