Electrical Box Wrap Project
A public art project installed as “wraps” on electrical boxes in Decatur
The Decatur City Council passed an ordinance in support of public art at its Monday, April 18, 2016 meeting. There is a public interest to be served by public art displays in that it can make art more accessible to individuals that might not otherwise be able to experience it, can attract visitors, and make living and working spaces more desirable.
That year, The City of Decatur worked with the Decatur Area Arts Council Public Arts Committee on a project with the goal to use local electrical boxes as “canvases” to promote the Decatur Community. While plans are for the wraps to be installed by the city throughout the community, the first round targeted in the downtown.
These two wraps were installed in 2017.
