Welcome to Arts In Central Park 2008

Decatur, Illinois, hosts one of Central Illinois' finest art show on the third weekend of September every year, Arts in Central Park, a juried art show features:

  • a beautiful location in Central Park, with it's historic Transfer House and magnificent fountain

  • arts activities and an art shop for kids

  • live entertainment

  • food booths

For the artists:

  • hospitality room plus light dinner Friday night

  • assistance available for set-up and take-down

  • booth sitters for breaks each day

  • guaranteed purchases by OVER 150 patrons

The festive atmosphere of Arts in Central Park creates a pleasant and rewarding experience for both artists and the public.  You are invited to submit an application to join more than 6 other artists for this wonderful summer tradition.  All media fine arts and fine crafts are eligible to jury.

Spaces

One 10’ x 10’ space is provided for each artist. Spaces vary in clearance height due to trees. If you use a canopy, please indicate height on the application so the committee can assign you a suitable location.

Hospitality

  • Complimentary coffee and refreshments will be provided for the artists both days.

  • Assistance is available for set-up and take-down Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

  • Booth sitters will be available for breaks each day.

  • Security will be provided on Friday and Saturday nights.

  • Lunch options include vendors on the grounds and nearby restaurants.

Awards

Monetary awards and ribbons, determined by qualified judges, will be presented for Best of Show and in each of the following catagories:

  • Painting/Drawing

  • Clay

  • Jewelry

  • Mixed

  • Photography

Application Process

Complete the entire application. Use the checklist to ensure that you have enclosed everything. Applications must be postmarked by June 2, 2008.

All new artists must be juried in order to be accepted to the show. Returning artists are juried  once every five years. To jury, submit five images on a CD that clearly represent all art to be exhibited. Submitted art must be of work completed by the artist in the past two years. Your artwork will be evaluated by a panel of jurors for craftsmanship, originality, and design.

If your are a returning artist, please enclose a check for $85.  If you are a new artist to Arts in Central Park or returning after several years, please enclose one check for $100 ($85 for space fee/$15 non-refundable jury fee) made payable to the Decatur  Area Arts Council.  Artists not accepted will receive a refund check for $85.

Sept. 19                     Artists/Patrons Preview Party 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Sept. 20-21                Exhibit dates Sat. 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Sun. 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.


Guidelines

(The following guidelines and policies are provided to ensure fairness to all participating artists and to the buying public.)

Artwork for jurying and inclusion in the show must be original. Assistance of commercial molds and kits may not be used.

Framed and unframed machine and photomechanical reproductions of original work may be displayed on panels in booth space. Prints must be clearly identified. No more than 1/3 of display area may be devoted to prints. All work must be for sale.

No t-shirts or purchased articles of clothing, bags, etc. with artwork on them are accepted.

Artists shall only exhibit and sell works typified by their juried material. The Arts in Central Park Committee will screen booths during the weekend. If work is not consistent or rules have not been followed, artists may be asked to leave. The committee’s judgment is final.  No refunds will be given.

Artists must be present both days. No agents allowed. 

Artists should plan to exhibit rain or shine.

No refunds or cancellations will be given.

Artists have the option of setting up early Friday for possible sales during the Artists/Patrons Preview Party.

Pets are not allowed in Central Park.
